EW – Ed Sheeran has announced he will join the robust lineup of performers taking the stage at Sunday’s Grammy Awards.

The 25-year-old U.K. native posted a photo to Instagram on Sunday afternoon, teasing the upcoming gig to his 7.2 million followers.

“Playing the Grammys tonight on cbs, tune in !” he wrote, sharing a photo of himself at what appears to be rehearsals for the Grammys telecast.

Sheeran, a two-time Grammy winner, joins this year’s previously announced crop of Grammy performers, including Lady Gaga, Metallica, Adele, Bruno Mars, Beyoncé, and Carrie Underwood. He is nominated by the Recording Academy this year as the songwriter of Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself.”

Upon the release of his latest single “Shape of You” in January, Sheeran scored his first No. 1 on the Billboard 100, additionally becoming the first artist to simultaneously debut two singles within the chart’s top 10, as his “Castle on the Hill” also bowed at No. 6.

Both tracks’ parent album, ÷, is set for release on March 3. Sheeran previewed the studio set as the musical guest on this weekend’s episode of Saturday Night Live.

Watch the 59th Grammy Awards telecast Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS for Sheeran’s performance.

It’s official: you can call him Dr Sheeran now.

British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, who ditched school at 16 to focus on his music career, has received an honorary degree from his hometown university.

Sheeran, who grew up in Framlingham, Suffolk, has been awarded an honorary doctorate from University Campus Suffolk (UCS) in Ipswich in respect of his “outstanding contribution to music”

“I graduated today, I am now officially Dr. Sheeran, he announced from his social media pages. Sheeran attended the ceremony dressed proudly in the university’s gown and cap. “I’ve had an amazing year… and this makes it even better,” he said on receiving his honor. He added, “Suffolk is very much where I call home. Receiving this recognition is a real privilege.”

When Sheeran says he’s had an amazing year, he’s not kidding. The artist’s “Thinking Out Loud” recently became the first song on Spotify to hit the 500 million stream milestone and he fulfilled a dream when he played three sold-out solo dates at London’s Wembley Stadium in July. The following month he was crowned top musical act in the U.S. for the first time on the Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across Billboard’s most influential charts.

Later in the year, he’ll become the first male artist in two decades to tour stadiums completely solo (he’ll perform with just a loop pedal and his acoustic guitar) in Australia, where his sophomore album X was the best-seller for 2014. Sheeran will co-host the MTV Europe Music Awards this Sunday in Milan, Italy.

Congrats Ed!

TELEGRAPH.CO.UK – Ed Sheeran added to his ever-growing list of accomplishments when his song Thinking Out Loud became the first song to be streamed half a billion times on Spotify earlier today.

Sheeran said he was “chuffed” and extended a special “thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding song, soundtrack to a date, and as a way to woo someone into a Netflix and chill situation”.

The 24-year-old’s entire catalogue has enjoyed 2.9 billion streams altogether – only Eminem has had more collective streams. It is estimated that one in four Spotify users had a song by Sheeran on their playlist.

To celebrate his worldwide popularity, Spotify has created the Sheerio Index, a map displaying which countries Sheeran is most popular in. Spotify has found that Sheeran’s music is most popular in English-speaking countries and Scandinavia. Denmark streams Sheeran’s songs most frequently out of those countries with access to Spotify.

Some 19 million people listen to Sheeran on Spotify each month, and his songs are included on 38 million playlists.

Thinking Out Loud was released in June 2014 and became Sheeran’s second number one single in early November. The track also topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Denmark, the Netherlands, Slovakia and South Africa.

This isn’t the first record the single has broken either. In June 2015, Thinking Out Loud became the first ever single to spend a full year in the UK top 40. In December 2014, Spotify named his second album X the most streamed album in the world for that year.

Later this month, Sheeran will co-host this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards with Australian actress Ruby Rose.
